During F Period, Chiefs are welcomed to the Academic Fair, where they may view all the possible electives for their future schedules. Various tables fill the gymnasium, each showcasing a different class. The Academic Fair serves as a chance for Gibbons to advertise the diversity of its curriculum and may expose students to electives they’ve never seen before. By going beyond paper and counselor meetings and extending into an F Block interactive event, the Academic Fair allows students to hear about the class from both teacher and peer.

There are evident benefits to holding an Academic Fair before the closing of the school year. “You can make informed decisions on what you truly want as a student for your academic path,” English teacher Mrs. Cloyd testified. “[The Academic Fair] helps to show everything we have to offer.” The choice to display available electives ahead of time is a strategic one. Students have ample time to think about their best interests, just as the school intends.

“Seeing a teacher who’s passionate about what they teach influences [students] more than reading it from a piece of paper,” explained English teacher Mr. Cubas. After all, if the teacher is excited about the course, what reason has the student not to be? Yesterday’s Academic Fair was surely an event that, along with Gibbons’ various preparatory methods, is another step in the direction of academic success.
