Trevor Firth Leads the Charge with 80% Face-Off Win Rate as Cardinal Gibbons Shuts Out Cooper City
The Cardinal Gibbons boys lacrosse team started their 2025 campaign in dominant fashion, securing a decisive 16-3 victory over Cooper City High School in their home opener on Monday night. New Head Coach Nick Zukauskas secured his first win as the Cardinal Gibbons Boys Lacrosse Head Coach.

From the opening whistle, Cardinal Gibbons controlled the pace of play. The offense clicked on all cylinders, recording 16 total goals with an equal number of assists, highlighting a well-balanced team effort. The Chiefs capitalized on their scoring opportunities with sharp shooting and unselfish play, keeping Cooper City on their heels for the entirety of the contest.
Freshman Tucker Green led the way with 5 goals in his first career start, while Sophomore Jack Harris had 4. Freshman Caden Bennett finished with 2 goals and 1 assist and Hudson Bezjak had 3 goals.

The player of the game was Junior face-off specialist Trevor Firth, who dominated at the X, winning 17 of 21 face-offs for an impressive 80% success rate. His ability to secure possession provided the Chiefs with consistent offensive opportunities and limited any chance of momentum for the visiting Cowboys.

Defensively, the Chiefs delivered a near shutout performance, stifling Cooper City’s attack with disciplined play and strong communication. The defensive unit, backed by solid goaltending from Junior Will O’Connor, ensured that the visitors struggled to generate quality scoring chances.
With this statement win, Cardinal Gibbons looks ahead to building on their strong start as they continue their journey in District D14. The team will aim to maintain their momentum as they prepare for their next matchup against the Pine Crest school Thursday February 13th home at 6PM.
